Port
InnoBarge Port while being able to use existing port facilities, the InnoBarge project develops a port structure that utilizes solar energy and stimulates economic growth in rural towns found along the rivers. The port is much smaller than typical cargo ports. A solar field, advanced microgrid energy management system, robotic barge charging connections, and electric tractors for loading/unloading are the key components. A large gantry is not necessary. The rural river environment is ideal for the placement of the port because of the abundance of sunlight and the lower cost of installing a loading and unloading ramp structure. The port also becomes an energy source for Third-Party Logistics (3PL) and drayage service companies located at the port. On the Cumberland and Tennessee river, there are only 4 out of over a hundred ports that currently handle goods shipped by container.
